Actively Aerated Compost Tea
Organic lawn fertilization and aerated compost tea services use natural ingredients to nourish your lawn, promoting healthier and more sustainable growth. Unlike chemical fertilizers, our organic fertilizer and aerated compost tea won't harm the environment or the health of your family and pets. ¡Adiós! to toxic chemicals and hello to a lush, green lawn with organic fertilization.

Aerated compost tea is a natural liquid fertilizer that we use to supplement the application of slow-release granular organic lawn fertilizers. It improves the soil's nutrient content, promoting healthy root growth and a lush, vibrant lawn. The beneficial microorganisms in compost tea also help control harmful pathogens and pests, removing the need for chemical lawn treatments.

Low environmental impact: Unlike 99.99% of all other companies out there, we do not sell a bag fertilizer for x amount of visit. Our service begins with the end in mind. We perform a real soil test and adjust our spread rates accordingly. Our seedlot facility in south Austin is equipped with compound and stereo microscopes, probes, Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) nutrient testers, and sap testers: techniques we borrowed from organic farms in Texas and from all around the world. This is the only way we can reduce or even eliminate nitrate and phosphate runoff from lawns to our rivers. We do this one lawn at a time. Our hope is that the industry will notice and change for the better.

New for 2023:
Scheduled Top Dressing Service

Shows the Process of Top Dressing Service in Austin
Process of Top Dressing Service in Austin
Top dressing is an organic lawn care technique that involves spreading a thin layer of organic material. In our case, we spread high quality compost infused with actively aerated compost tea over the lawn surface at a thickness of 1/8 of an inch.
In an organic lawn care program, top dressing improves soil structure, provides a slow-release source of nutrients over the long term, manages thatch, levels the lawn surface, and supports overseeding and organic fertilization efforts. We top dress once a year either in spring or fall.

Scheduled Dethatching Service

Lawn dethatching is a crucial organic lawn care process that involves removing the layer of accumulated organic debris, known as thatch, from the lawn surface. Thatch is composed of dead grass, leaves, and other plant materials that can build up between the grass blades and the soil.
Dethatching Service for Organic Lawns in Austin Texas
Our Dethatcher in Action
When the thatch layer becomes too thick, it can hinder water, air, and nutrient penetration to the grass roots, leading to a less healthy and vibrant lawn. This process promotes better airflow, water absorption, and nutrient uptake, ultimately resulting in a healthier, greener lawn. Regular dethatching, often done in spring or fall, helps maintain overall lawn health and appearance.

Answer: We no longer need to do an onsite estimate. All our estimates are based on your lawn area using satellite imaging, public MLS records, and government property tax filings. This expedites our estimate process.

13. Are you locally owned and independently operated? Why the 844 number?
Answer: Yes, we are locally owned and independently operated since 2015. You will see familiar faces through the years. We are in for the long haul and plan to keep it that way for a very long time. We use the 844 number to call blast all our phones, but here's the story behind it.

14. How soon do I need to wait before I can walk on my lawn after you applied fertilizer and compost tea?
Answer: You can walk on your lawn a few minutes after fertilization and compost tea application. If it looks dry, you may walk on it. Our compost tea, for example, naturally penetrates the soil a few minutes after spraying. What you will find in our compost tea is water, high quality compost and worm castings, unsulfured molasses, kelp, vegetable oil, and organic fish fertilizers. Because the products we use only have naturally occurring compounds, they are classified as generally safe for pets and humans.  Generally safe because we have to tell you 1 caveat: DO NOT drink our compost tea. That's all. Walking around the lawn is fine.

15. What if I want you to do all the services at once?
All services featured in our subscription are scheduled and spread out throughout the year. For example, we will schedule your lawn mowing service on your preferred intervals, either weekly or bi-weekly. For fertilization, we typically do this once every 3-4 months depending on the grass' needs or growth cycle . Aeration and overseeding services are typically done towards the end of the year and so on. Our subscription service spread out these services over many months. That way you are not hit by one large bill in one month and can have a foreseeable lawn care budget throughout the year. Like you,  we are homeowners too and know how important it is to budget the month.

16.
What if I only want you to use a specific type of seed?
Our subscription assumes you trust us in picking and choosing which types, mixes, and varieties of seeds to use. This means that we may use any seed we deem necessary to maintain your lawn. Seed varieties vary from winter rye grass, fescue, bermuda, zoysia, buffalo, or any other mix that will prevent your lawn from deteriorating. Sometimes a specific variety of grass will fail to germinate because of specific location issues, like shade to name one, and so we need to find an alternative variety of grass that will germinate in that specific location. If you prefer that you control which seeds we use, we would like to refer you to our normal lawn care service. There you have the power to pick and choose which seeds you want laid on your lawn.

17. What if I subscribed mid-month or at the end of the month?

Our subscription service will only bill you for services provided for the month. For example, if you are on a biweekly interval, and we only did 1 out of 2 possible visits in the first month, you will only be billed for half (50%) of the subscription rate. If on weekly visits, and we only came out 3 out of 4 possible visits in the first month, expect your bill to only reflect 3/4 (75%) of the subscription rate. If on the other hand you started very late into the month and only had 1 out of 4 possible visits, then expect 25% of the subscription rate to be billed for your first month. If there were no visits, you will not be billed for that month.

Brewed from compost, water, and a source of oxygen, compost tea teems with beneficial microorganisms that enrich the soil, stimulate healthy root growth, and support a lush, vibrant lawn.

Key Benefits of Aerated Compost Tea
  1. Enhanced Nutrient Availability: The beneficial microorganisms in compost tea help break down organic matter, making nutrients more accessible to your lawn's roots. This fosters stronger, more resilient grass that can better withstand stressors such as pests, diseases, and changing weather conditions.
  2. Improved Soil Structure: The microorganisms in compost tea contribute to the formation of soil aggregates, which in turn improves the soil's structure, aeration, and water retention capabilities. Healthy soil is the foundation for a thriving, sustainable lawn.
  3. Pest and Disease Control: The beneficial microorganisms in compost tea can outcompete and suppress harmful pathogens and pests, reducing the need for chemical lawn treatments. By maintaining a healthy balance of beneficial microbes in your soil, you can keep your lawn vibrant and pest-free without resorting to toxic chemicals.

Included Core Aeration Service in Detail

Lawn Core Aeration Service
Lawn Core Aeration Service
Core aeration is a highly effective lawn maintenance technique designed to alleviate soil compaction, enhance nutrient absorption, and promote healthy root growth. This process is essential for maintaining a lush, green lawn and preventing issues such as thatch buildup and pest infestations. To fully understand the importance and benefits of core aeration, let's delve deeper into what it entails and how it contributes to a thriving lawn.

Understanding Soil Compaction and Its Effects on Lawns
Soil compaction occurs when the soil particles are pressed together, reducing the space between them and making it difficult for water, air, and nutrients to penetrate the soil. This can result from heavy foot traffic, lawn equipment, or even natural settling over time. Compacted soil hinders root growth and development, leading to weaker grass that is more susceptible to diseases, pests, and drought stress.

The Core Aeration Process: Core aeration involves the use of a specialized machine called a lawn aerator, which removes small cylindrical plugs or "cores" of soil from the lawn at regular intervals. These cores, typically about 2-4 inches apart, are left on the surface of the lawn to decompose naturally. The process creates small holes in the soil, allowing water, air, and nutrients to penetrate deeper and reach the root zone more effectively.

Key Benefits of Core Aeration
  1. Improved Nutrient Absorption: The holes created during core aeration provide pathways for essential nutrients to reach the grass roots. This enables the roots to access and absorb nutrients more efficiently, resulting in a healthier, more vigorous lawn.
  2. Enhanced Root Growth: By alleviating soil compaction, core aeration encourages root growth and development. Deeper, more robust root systems enable the grass to better withstand environmental stressors, such as drought, and recover more quickly from damage.
  3. Thatch Management: Thatch is a layer of partially decomposed organic matter that accumulates between the soil surface and the green grass blades. While a thin layer of thatch can be beneficial, excessive thatch can harbor pests and diseases and impede the flow of water and nutrients. Core aeration helps break up thatch and stimulate the activity of microorganisms that decompose it, maintaining a balanced thatch layer.
  4. Improved Water Infiltration: Core aeration allows water to penetrate deeper into the soil, reducing runoff and promoting more efficient water use. This can help save water and reduce the need for frequent watering, particularly in areas prone to drought.
  5. Enhanced Pest and Disease Resistance: A well-aerated lawn with a healthy root system is better equipped to resist pests and diseases. By maintaining optimal soil conditions through core aeration, you can reduce the need for chemical treatments and promote a safer, healthier lawn.

Best Practices and Timing for Core Aeration
To maximize the benefits of core aeration, it is essential to perform the service at the right time and under the proper conditions. For cool-season grasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass or fescue, the ideal time for aeration is during the early fall or spring, when the grass is actively growing. For warm-season grasses, like Bermuda or Zoysia, the optimal time is during the late spring or early summer.
Additionally, it is crucial to ensure the soil is moist but not saturated when performing core aeration. This ensures the aerator can effectively penetrate the soil and remove cores without causing further compaction or damage.

Core aeration is a vital lawn maintenance practice that enhances the overall health and appearance of your lawn. By alleviating soil compaction, promoting root growth, and improving nutrient absorption, you can maintain a lush, green lawn that is more resilient to environmental stressors, pests, and diseases.

Included Seeding and Overseeding Service in Detail

Over time, lawns can become thin, patchy, or even bare due to various factors such as heat stress, foot traffic, pests, or diseases. Lawn overseeding and reseeding are essential practices that can rejuvenate your lawn, promote healthy grass growth, and maintain its lush, green appearance. For those unfamiliar with these concepts, let's explore what they entail and the numerous benefits they offer to your lawn.

Understanding Lawn Overseeding and Reseeding
Lawn overseeding involves distributing grass seed over an existing lawn to improve its density and fill in any thin or bare areas. This process is typically done on lawns that still have a reasonable amount of healthy grass but could benefit from additional growth.

Lawn reseeding, on the other hand, is the process of sowing grass seed in areas where the existing grass has been severely damaged or has died off completely. This is often necessary when a lawn has experienced significant stress, such as from drought, pest infestations, or diseases.

Both overseeding and reseeding involve using high-quality grass seed blends that are specifically chosen based on your lawn's unique characteristics and soil conditions. By selecting the appropriate seed mix, you can ensure the new grass is well-suited to your lawn's environment, resulting in optimal growth and health.

Key Benefits of Lawn Overseeding and Reseeding
  1. Improved Lawn Density: Overseeding and reseeding help to fill in thin or bare spots in your lawn, resulting in a thicker, more uniform appearance. A dense lawn not only looks more attractive but also provides better insulation, helping to maintain consistent soil temperatures.
  2. Enhanced Lawn Appearance: By introducing new, healthy grass, overseeding and reseeding can greatly improve the overall aesthetics of your lawn, making it look more vibrant and lush.
  3. Weed Suppression: A dense, healthy lawn leaves little room for weeds to establish themselves. By overseeding and reseeding, you create a more competitive environment for weeds, making it harder for them to take root and thrive.
  4. Increased Stress Tolerance: A thick, healthy lawn with a diverse blend of grass species is more resilient to various stressors such as heat, cold, foot traffic, and pests. Overseeding and reseeding can help your lawn better withstand these challenges and maintain its health and appearance.
  5. Enhanced Disease and Pest Resistance: Introducing new grass varieties through overseeding and reseeding can help increase your lawn's resistance to diseases and pests. Different grass species possess unique traits that make them more resistant to specific threats, making your lawn more resilient overall.

Best Practices and Timing for Overseeding and Reseeding
To maximize the benefits of overseeding and reseeding, it is crucial to perform these services at the appropriate time and under the right conditions. For cool-season grasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass or fescue, the ideal time for overseeding or reseeding is during the early fall or spring, when the grass is actively growing. For warm-season grasses, like Bermuda or zoysia, the optimal time is during the late spring or early summer.

Additionally, it is essential to properly prepare the lawn before overseeding or reseeding. This may involve core aeration, dethatching, or mowing the lawn at a lower height to ensure optimal seed-to-soil contact. After seeding, maintain consistent moisture levels by watering the lawn regularly until the new grass is established.

Lawn overseeding and reseeding are vital practices for maintaining a healthy, attractive lawn. By selecting the appropriate grass seed blend and following best practices, you can rejuvenate your lawn, improve its density, and enhance its resistance to diseases and pests.

Included Sod Grass Plug Service in Detail

Grass Sod Plug
Grass Sod Plug
Sod grass plug service is a specialized method designed to fill in bare or thin spots in your lawn using small grass plugs, offering a quick and effective way to establish a thicker and healthier lawn. This technique is particularly useful when seeds are either unavailable or the grass type in question does not have viable seeds that can be successfully propagated in the field. By opting for sod grass plugs, you can enjoy instant results and improved germination in problem areas. Let's explore the concept of sod grass plugs and the various benefits they offer in more detail.

Understanding Sod Grass Plugs
Sod grass plugs are small, individual sections of mature, healthy grass, including both the grass blades and a portion of the root system. They are typically grown in nurseries and harvested with a layer of soil still attached to the roots. These plugs can be planted in a lawn's problem areas, such as bare or thin spots, to promote rapid growth and recovery.

Key Advantages of Sod Grass Plug Service
  1. Instant Results: Unlike traditional seeding methods, which require time for germination and growth, sod grass plugs provide an immediate visual improvement to your lawn. They fill in bare or thin spots right away, offering a more uniform and attractive appearance.
  2. Rapid Establishment: Sod grass plugs have a mature and well-developed root system, allowing them to establish themselves quickly in your lawn. This means they can begin growing and spreading sooner than seeded grass, leading to a faster recovery for problem areas.
  3. Improved Germination: In situations where seeds may struggle to germinate, such as in heavy shade or on steep slopes, sod grass plugs offer a reliable alternative. Their established root systems enable them to adapt more easily to challenging growing conditions, ensuring a higher success rate.
  4. Adaptability to Grass Types: Some grass types, such as certain warm-season grasses, may not produce viable seeds or may have seeds that are difficult to propagate in the field. Sod grass plugs provide an effective solution for these grass types, allowing you to maintain a healthy, uniform lawn regardless of the grass species.
  5. Enhanced Soil Erosion Control: By quickly establishing themselves in your lawn, sod grass plugs help to minimize soil erosion in problem areas. This is particularly valuable on sloped or uneven terrain, where bare spots can lead to significant soil loss during heavy rainfall.

Best Practices for Sod Grass Plug Service
To maximize the benefits of sod grass plug service, it is essential to follow proper planting and maintenance practices. Before planting the plugs, prepare the soil by removing any weeds, debris, or rocks, and ensure the area is level and free of compaction. When planting the plugs, space them according to the specific grass type's recommendations, typically between 6 to 12 inches apart.
Once the plugs are planted, water them thoroughly and maintain consistent moisture levels, especially during the first few weeks, to promote rapid establishment. Additionally, follow proper lawn care practices, such as regular mowing, fertilization, and pest control, to ensure the newly planted grass plugs thrive and integrate seamlessly with the rest of your lawn.

In summary, sod grass plug service is an efficient and reliable method for addressing bare or thin spots in your lawn, offering instant results and improved germination in problem areas. By understanding the benefits and best practices associated with this technique, you can maintain a lush, healthy, and visually appealing lawn that is more resistant to various stressors.

Here's how top dressing works in conjunction with an organic lawn care program:

  1. Soil improvement: Top dressing with organic materials like compost, aged manure, or peat moss can help to improve soil structure, increase nutrient availability, and enhance the soil's water-holding capacity. This is especially important in an organic lawn care program, where synthetic fertilizers are not used.
  2. Nutrient supplementation: Organic lawn care programs rely on natural sources of nutrients to promote healthy grass growth. Top dressing provides a slow-release source of nutrients, as the organic matter gradually breaks down and releases nutrients into the soil.
  3. Thatch management: Thatch is a layer of dead grass and other organic debris that can accumulate between the soil and the living grass. In moderate amounts, thatch can be beneficial, but excessive thatch can cause issues like reduced water infiltration and increased disease risk. Top dressing can help to break down thatch by promoting the activity of beneficial microorganisms that decompose organic matter.
  4. Leveling and smoothing: Top dressing can help to fill in small depressions and even out the surface of the lawn, creating a more uniform appearance and reducing the risk of scalping when mowing.
  5. Seeding and overseeding: When combined with overseeding, top dressing can help to improve seed-to-soil contact and protect the seeds from drying out or being eaten by birds. This can enhance the success of overseeding efforts in an organic lawn care program, ensuring a denser, healthier lawn.

Top dressing will be done in the spring or fall as part of our comprehensive organic lawn care program. This practice, when combined with other organic lawn care practices like proper mowing, watering, and pest management, can help to create a healthy, sustainable, and attractive lawn.

Included Dethatching Service in Detail

Lawn dethatching is the process of removing the accumulated layer of organic debris, called thatch, from the surface of a lawn. Thatch consists of dead grass, leaves, and other plant materials that can build up between the grass blades and the soil. A thin layer of thatch can be beneficial, as it helps insulate the soil and provides a cushion for foot traffic. However, when the thatch layer becomes too thick, it creates a barrier that prevents water, air, and nutrients from reaching the grass roots, leading to a less healthy and vibrant lawn.

Dethatching is an essential aspect of thatch management. Generally, lawns should be dethatched when the thatch layer exceeds 1/2 inch in thickness. This can be determined by cutting a small plug from the lawn and measuring the thickness of the thatch layer. The ideal time to dethatch your lawn is during the active growing season, typically in spring or fall, as this allows the grass to recover quickly.

There are several key benefits to lawn dethatching:
  1. Improved air circulation: Removing excess thatch allows for better airflow around the grass blades, promoting healthier growth and reducing the risk of disease.
  2. Enhanced water absorption: Dethatching enables water to penetrate the soil more easily, ensuring that the grass roots receive the necessary moisture for optimal growth.
  3. Better nutrient uptake: With the thatch barrier removed, nutrients from fertilizers can reach the grass roots more effectively, resulting in a healthier, greener lawn.
  4. Reduced pest and disease problems: Thick layers of thatch can harbor pests and create an environment conducive to diseases. Dethatching helps maintain a healthier lawn by eliminating these favorable conditions.
  5. Improved appearance: Lawns with excessive thatch can appear patchy, uneven, and less vibrant. Dethatching helps create a uniform, lush lawn that is visually appealing.
The frequency of dethatching depends on various factors, such as the type of grass, climate, and soil conditions. Generally, lawns should be dethatched once every one to three years. Some grass species, like Bermuda and Zoysia, may require more frequent dethatching due to their rapid thatch buildup.
Dethatching can be performed using specialized tools like a dethatching rake or a power dethatcher, which effectively removes the excess thatch from the lawn. After dethatching, it's essential to provide proper lawn care, such as watering, fertilizing, and mowing, to ensure the grass recovers and thrives.

In winter, why would I still need your subscription?
During winter, it's essential to prepare your lawn for the upcoming spring season. Our winter lawn care services, which include aeration and overseeding, are designed to promote a healthy lawn while minimizing weed germination in the spring. By using only organic lawn care products, we foster a thriving, sustainable lawn without relying on harmful chemicals to selectively eliminate unwanted weeds. Let's explore these organic lawn care practices in more detail and understand their benefits for your lawn.

Aeration Service in Winter: Breathing Life into Your Lawn
Scheduling aeration services during the winter months helps to alleviate soil compaction and improve the overall health of your lawn. Aeration involves creating small holes in the soil to allow water, air, and nutrients to penetrate deeper, promoting healthy root growth and enhancing the lawn's ability to absorb essential nutrients. By aerating your lawn in winter, you prepare the soil for the upcoming growth period and ensure your lawn is ready to flourish in the spring.

Overseeding with Cold Season Annuals: Outcompeting Weeds Naturally
In conjunction with aeration, overseeding is an effective way to introduce cold season, shallow-rooted annual grass varieties into your lawn. These grasses fill in any bare or thin spots, improving the lawn's overall density and appearance. By establishing a healthy, thick lawn, you create an unfavorable environment for weed germination in the spring, reducing the need for chemical weed control.

Organic Lawn Care: Sustainable and Eco-Friendly
By choosing organic lawn care products, we avoid the use of harmful chemicals that can damage the environment and pose risks to human health. While organic methods do not selectively eliminate weeds, a well-maintained, dense lawn can naturally suppress the growth of unwanted weeds. If weeds do appear in the spring, they are likely to persist throughout the year until the first frost. However, by consistently implementing organic lawn care practices, you can promote a healthier, more resilient lawn that can outcompete weeds over time.

Winter organic lawn care services, including aeration and overseeding with cold season annuals, are crucial in preparing your lawn for a healthy and vibrant spring. By using organic lawn care products and practices, you can create a lush, thriving lawn while minimizing weed germination and avoiding the use of harmful chemicals. With proper care and maintenance, your lawn can enjoy sustainable growth and a beautiful appearance throughout the year.
