1. Topographical Analysis
Is the lawn receding in isolated areas? Do we have sunlight obstructions? How about pets? Fungal growth? Thatch layer? These are some of the questions we answer when finding the root cause of a specific problem. This evidence-based approach yields more fruitful answers than blindly applying products the big box store recommends. Remember, we do this all-day everyday. We have seen at least 6,000 lawns in Austin as of this writing.2. Chemical Analysis
Do we use zone sampling method or field sampling method? Each sampling method has its pros and cons, and choosing which one to use focuses our attention to a specific issue we are trying to address. We borrowed this practice from Texan farmers. If you have ever ran a farm, what we do sounds very familiar. Our thought is that if it works with crops, then it will work with grass, and for that matter, with any other plants. Throughout the years of doing this, we have recorded the results of each soil test we have performed, and these records tell us the range for each types of St. Augustine, Buffalo, Bermuda, and other grasses specifically in south Austin.3. Soil Analysis
Clay, loamy, sandy, rocky, or just littered with leaves? Is the soil compacted? Dry? Cracking? The soil composition will result with the application of a range of different products and services. For example, if there are excessive leaves, we would remove the leaves, apply actively aerated compost tea, a practice we borrowed from permaculture, and top dress if necessary to encourage natural decomposition of organic matter. This eliminates waste by creating a close-loop ecosystem in our lawn. What this means is that the remaining organic matter, leaves in this case, will naturally decompose, unlocking nutrients only to be re-absorbed by the lawn.

Our organic fertilization program uses natural and organic fertilizers to ensure deep and strong root growth that lasts. You will not see us spreading synthetic fertilizers all over the place. We want earthworms to propagate because the lawn needs their castings. Your lawn will be fertilized at the beginning of the year in once in every month of March, May, July, September, and November using time released organic fertilizers. Do not worry. We are aware that over-fertilization is a problem. Actively Aerated Compost TeaOur organic fertilization process is truly unique in the industry. When everybody else uses whatever the chemical companies recommend, our approach is based from research about organic products that we have scoured all over the world. Yes, we travel to other countries in search for the best organic practices not found anywhere else in Austin, Texas. Our method uses natural and organic fertilizers that are known to break down very slowly, totally avoiding lawn or plant burning and minimizing over-fertilization and nutrient runoffs to our local river and waterways. Our professionally brewed actively aerated compost tea (AACT) replaces bulky compost and is more efficient in spreading nutrients and beneficial microbes - mobile and non-mobile bacteria, archaeas, nematodes, protozoas, ciliates, flagellates, testates, fungal hypheas, rotifers, among others - to encourage further breakdown of organic matter, like leaves, mulch, and grass clippings. Lawns with lots of shade, for example, will not be ideal for Bermuda grass seeds. Bermuda grass seeds just have a lot of trouble growing under shade in the real world specifically here in South Austin. Of course, the Bermuda grass seed manufacturer would say otherwise. Lawn Core AerationCore aeration service helps your lawn by creating a system of non-capillary holes that makes the movement of water, air, and movable nutrients easier. This movement of specifically water and air is known to alleviate the effects of soil compaction. Core aeration involves the removal of soil plugs or cores out of the lawn. These cores are removed mechanically by an aerator to relieve soil compaction and break thatch. Think of it as a regular facial for your lawn. Power Raking DethatchingThere are rare instances when lawns years of chemical use have killed so much microbes that the soil can not even decompose normal grass clippings. This is very rare. But sometimes core aeration will not be enough to break through the thatch layer. In this case, Power Raking Dethatching is needed. While having a thick thatch is nonexistent on new lawns, it is prevalent on older ones, especially if you spray nitrates, herbicides or pesticides. Herbicides and pesticides are known to have chemicals that kill microbes which affects the natural decomposition process of organic matter. Power Raking Dethatching physically removes the thick layer of thatch, of dead and decaying plant material between the grass and the soil. Thatch is removed by manually pulling the thatch off with a powered rake which then deposits the thatch on top of the lawn. The thatch is then either leaf blown, vacuumed up, manually raked, bagged, and disposed of. This is a labor intensive work, one that requires hours of hard work.
