As its core, measuring plant beds comes down to one simple formula:

Length x Width = Square Footage 

Example; 
If your bed is 10 feet long and 4 feet wide
10 x 4 = 40 square feet 


Method 1: Measuring with Google Maps (Quick and Convenient)
If you don't have a tools and handy or want a fast estimate, Google Maps is a powerful option. 

1. Open Google Maps on your computer 
2. Switch to Satellite View
3. Right- click your property 
4. Click "Measure distance"
5. Click around the edges of your plant bed
6. Close the shape to see total area

This gives you a solid square footage estimate without stepping outside.

Method 2: Measuring with a Tape Measure (Most Accurate)
Steps:

1. Measure the length of the bed (end to end)
2. Measure the width (front to back)
3. Multiply the two numbers
